#1 Who gets it?

Strep throat, an infection in the throat and tonsils, is usually seen in children and young adults 5-15 years of age.

PEARL: It is unusual to see strep throat in children under 3 years of age.

#2 What causes it?

Strep throat is caused by bacteria called group A Streptococcus (often referred to as group A strep).
