Happy Fall everyone. Fall in New England means leaves and here is what I am looking at outside my study. Isn’t it a beautiful view?
Now that my break time is over, I want to share with you the plan for our next Semester. The Lactation College on Substack will be starting a new Semester - that is Semester #7 - on November 1, 2023. We will follow the same template as before, meaning I will post on topics every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Most topics will be followed by a Test Your Knowledge post. In the next few days I will share a Semester curriculum so you will know what is coming. We are at about 70 topics - many are the same as before (altho always with tweaks if possible) - and we have some new ones too.
The first goal of this site is to help candidates pass the IBCLC examination. The 7th Semester is to help candidates taking the examination April 15, 2024 - April 20, 2024. From the IBLCE website I see this test is being offered worldwide in English. I will, however, continue to publish each topic in English and Spanish.
I don’t have any inside knowledge about the examination - but to test takers I suggest:
Subscribe to this site. You can come to this site at your leisure or, if you subscribe, every post will go to your email box when it is posted. Email addresses are not shared. Read each post, then go back and read them again until you feel you have a pretty good understanding of the topic.
Buy The Breastfeeding Atlas. Read that front to back at least two times. Remember that the second part of the actual test consists of pictures and I feel that area is one that The Lactation College on Substack is lacking (altho I am trying to improve that).
As the test date approaches, take a practice examination. More on that later.
It never hurts to read information over again - so if you are here already, having already passed your test, I hope you will stay. This is a free resource, and your subscription helps the cause.
Finally, if you have a medical student or a resident or a new provider who may need more info on lactation - welcome aboard!
Please share widely and there will be more information to come.
Now I need to go rake some leaves.
All the best,
Bobbi Philipp
